EPA Union Statement on Michael Regan’s Confirmation to be EPA Administrator
The United States Senate today confirmed Michael Regan as the new administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In response, Gary Morton, President of AFGE Council 238 — EPA’s largest employees union — released the following statement:
“On behalf of AFGE Council 238, I congratulate Michael Regan on his Senate confirmation to be the next EPA administrator. Administrator Regan has a distinguished record of government service and environmental protection, and is clearly committed to advancing President Biden’s bold agenda to tackle climate change and pursue environmental justice. AFGE Council 238 is confident that with Administrator Regan at the helm, science will once again be at the forefront of EPA decision making and the agency can achieve its mission of protecting human health and the environment.
“Administrator Regan’s confirmation today represents a fresh start for EPA employees, who faced four years of nonstop attacks under the Trump administration. While there are many reasons for optimism, much work remains in order to rebuild trust between EPA leadership and the workforce. It is critical that Administrator Regan and his leadership team take the time to listen to EPA employees who have endured so much and are eager to rebuild the agency they have dedicated their careers to.
“AFGE Council 238 members look forward to partnering with Administrator Regan to address the serious climate challenges of our time.”
