EPA Union Statement on Biden Climate Actions: Full EPA Funding, Staffing Needed to Deliver on Bold Agenda

In response to President Joe Biden’s sweeping executive actions today taking on climate action, Gary Morton, President of AFGE Council 238 — EPA’s largest employees union — released the following statement:

“We applaud President Biden for taking executive action today to rightfully identify climate change as a national security priority and make environmental justice a focal point for his administration. The president’s commitment to tackling climate change, while protecting human health and the environment, is a welcome change from the blatant disregard the previous administration demonstrated toward environmental protection and justice.

“Delivering on President Biden’s bold environmental agenda is only possible if Congress provides full funding and staffing levels for the Environmental Protection Agency, which has sustained four years of attacks from the Trump administration. EPA workers are eager to take on the pressing challenges facing our environment and our planet.  As the union representing 7,500 EPA employees nationwide, we look forward to working with the Biden administration and Congress to provide EPA with the resources and the capacity needed to accomplish our mission.”
